Factors in Seals Selection
- Several factors affect the performance of seals including: media type, media temperature, shaft finish, pressure, surface speed of shaft, etc.
Types of Motion
|Any type of seal other than TX4
||TX4 seals (TC4, TB4.....)
|Water, non lubrication liquids
||Using two single-lip seals with grease or lubricants in between.
||When sealing element material is not acceptable, try mechanical seal.
- General seals are not intended for pressurized conditions. However V types of seals can withstand pressure up to 3 kg/cm2, such as TCV, TBV, and SBV, etc.
- P type can withstand up to 10 kg/cm2 , such as TCP....(1 kg/cm2 = 14.2 psi)

- The media temperature plus the friction between the seal and the shaft will result in the temperature of the seal to increase by as much as 40 degrees Celsius. Therefore, temperature plays a very important role in material selection.
